Beginner: "Strictly Strings", Suzuki Cello School 1-3, Feuillard Method, Position Pieces 1.
Early intermediate: Suzuki Cello School 4-7; Methods/etudes by Lee, Dotzauer, Schroeder; Bach Suites 1-3; Position Pieces 2, Double Stops for Cello, "Thumbs of Steel" 1; appropriate concert piece/sonata literature.
Later intermediate: Etudes by Piatti, Popper, Grutzmacher, Duport; "Thumbs of Steel" 2, Suzuki Cello School 8-10; appropriate sonata/concerto literature.
Lesson and practice time consists of both "preparation" and "performance". "Preparation" practice focuses on execution, musical understanding and a healthy physical approach to the instrument. "Performance" practice is focused on creating confidence and consistency in concert/audition situations.
Education
Ms. Brennand holds a Master of Music in cello performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she received the Denes Koromzay Chamber Music Award, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts. Anne Brennand is a member of the Boulder Philharmonic and the Greeley Symphony. She has also played in the St. Mary's Baroque Orchestra, Colorado Ballet, Cleo Parker Robinson dance, Denver Chamber Orchestra, Fort Collins Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony, Springfield Orchestra, Northeastern Philharmonic, Pennsylvania Ballet, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, Albany Symphony Orchestra, and the National Orchestral Association.
Philosophy
My approach to teaching is individualized, integrating a variety of styles and methods to address the talents and challenges of each student. Depending on age and interest, lessons might include games, improvisation, mini-concerts, visualization or other activities.
