Achievements/Scholarships
During his time at CU, he has played in the CU Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Brass Quintets, Horn Choir and Brass Pedagogy class. In addition, he continues his own private work on solos and concerti in regard to French Horn.
Highlights/Performances
Miles has experience with all brass instruments. That experience combined with the knowledge he has acquired from his education, enables Miles to not only teach the instruments, but also allows him to help students express themselves and grow as musicians and creators of art.
Influences
Miles has played Trombone off and on for five years. He began playing trombone in high school in an attempt to infiltrate the jazz band (which is off-limits to French Horn players). Since then he has taught many small groups in sectionals and small ensembles. The trombone is a wonderful instrument that is a pleasure to teach.
Philosophy
His basic philosophy of teaching is that it is most important to find your musical voice and to learn how to use that voice, and that music is for people of all ages and ability levels. Miles believes that the act of music making is inherently rewarding when approached with an openness and eagerness to learn.
