Aakash Mittal Saxophone, Clarinet, Flute

Northern Colorado musician Aakash Mittal has been making a name for himself leading his own jazz quartet, which performs all original music at such venues as Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge and Bliss Café.  He also leads a standards-based jazz duo and a classical flute and harp duet.  As a sideman he has played with the Jared Johnston Trio and the Bill Huston Duo, as well as the Funk/ Rock bands “The Down Unit” and “Voodoo Brown.”  Other musicians he has performed with include internationally- acclaimed bassist Kai Ekhart as well as local musicians Gabriel Beach, Matt Fuller, and Tim Carmichael.  His performance experience also includes playing the woodwind book for the award winning musical Urintown.

As a music educator Mittal has been running a private lessons studio since 2002. He has taught jazz and classical approaches to saxophone, clarinet, flute, composition, and music theory.  He has also taught ensembles, including the Cherry Creek Jazz Band and the Loveland High School saxophone section, as well as 6th grade woodwind students at Lucille Erwin Middle School. 

In his approach to composition and improvisation, Mittal seeks to create music that relates to his diverse background of both American and East Indian heritage, drawing inspiration as much from straight-ahead jazz and the avant-garde as East Indian music and modern grooves.   

Aakash Mittal received a BM in Saxophone Performance at The University of Colorado at Boulder.

Katie Vedder graduated Summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Clarinet Performance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Katie’s main instrument is clarinet but she also specializes in bass clarinet, saxophone, and bassoon. Music has been Katie’s passion since she was in grade school.

As a teacher, Katie strives to make lessons both fun and educational! She combines standard repertoire with multi cultural music and focuses lesson on student’s individual goals and learning styles. Katie welcomes students of all ages.
