Wrenn Van
From Lesson Studio student to Nashville performer
Wrenn Van: A Rising Star in Our Community
Wrenn Van is a remarkable young musician whose journey with The Lesson Studio began in 2011, when she was just seven years old. Starting with voice, guitar, and piano lessons, she quickly became one of the very first shining stars in our Rock and Pop Music Academy program. From those early days, we’ve had the privilege of watching her talent grow and her passion for music flourish.
Today, Wrenn continues to inspire as both a solo artist and the lead of her own group, The Wrenn Van Band. She performs regularly, showcasing a unique blend of vocals, guitar, and instrumental arrangements that highlight her versatility and artistry. Beyond her performances, Wrenn is also pursuing her studies at the prestigious Belmont University in Nashville, TN, balancing academic excellence with her ever-expanding musical career.
Her story is a testament to what dedication, creativity, and love for music can achieve, and we are so proud to celebrate her as part of our community.
From First Notes to Festival Stages
For Wrenn, music has always been second nature. She doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t singing or playing. After discovering The Lesson Studio, she jumped in, starting with piano, then adding voice, and soon joining the Rock & Pop Music Academy bands.
Her very first performance was at the Boulder Creek Festival, where excitement completely replaced nerves. That experience fueled her work ethic and love for performing. Each stage grew bigger, leading to a milestone moment: stepping into the spotlight at Boulder’s iconic Fox Theater.
Creative Growth Through RPMA
Wrenn credits much of her growth to the creative freedom she found at RPMA. From the beginning, she was encouraged to write original songs, a rare opportunity for young musicians. With the help of TLS instructors, her ideas came to life, whether that meant learning jazz chords on guitar or shaping arrangements in rehearsals.
She remembers how welcoming her teachers were: they didn’t just give lessons, they nurtured her creativity. Summer camps became her laboratory for exploration, a place to experiment with instruments, write new material, and perform with different bands. For Wrenn, it was a true playground for musical discovery.
From Student to Band Leader
Now a sophomore at Belmont University, Wrenn is embracing a new chapter as a professional artist. Leading her own band has pushed her into unfamiliar territory — from learning how to chart songs and master tools like iRealPro, to speaking the technical language needed to guide rehearsals. It’s been a leap, but one she’s met with courage and grace.
Reflecting on her journey, Wrenn offers advice she wishes she’d known earlier: “Music is not personal. You’re there to make the best product you can with others. Leave your ego at the door.” It’s a perspective that captures both her growth and her dedication to collaboration.
Wrenn’s Advice To Young Musicians
For students just starting at TLS or in the RPMA program, Wrenn’s advice is simple and powerful:
-
-
- Try everything — different instruments, different bands. Don’t limit yourself.
- Write constantly — not every song will be a keeper, but writing prolifically helps you find the gems.
- Perform often — get out there, whether it’s open mics or local gigs. Performing helps you grow comfortable and confident.
