Alleigh Watson
“To play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable”
About Alleigh
Alleigh grew up with her mother singing in church and her father playing guitar. Her father had gone to college for music and eventually ended up in a rock band, which he still plays in today. Alleigh attended their shows, which sparked her passion for music. Naturally, she got involved as soon as possible with children’s choir, piano lessons, and other musical activities. When she was old enough, Alleigh started participating in competitions, taking voice lessons, and getting more involved in music. In high school, she was very active in choir, and her teacher inspired her to pursue music as a career. This choice led her to where she is today, working on her second degree in vocal music and teaching voice students full-time.
Alleigh’s Instructional Approach
I believe that with the right dedication, determination, and humility, a proper singing voice can be obtained by anyone. I believe in no-nonsense techniques, steering away from complicated methods and going straight for what is easiest, simplest, and most natural for the voice and mind. I hope for each of my students to learn for the sake of passion and excitement, rather than completing a mundane task. The best and happiest of singers are those who prioritize the activity, but never take themselves too seriously. So let us enjoy the things we will be learning, together!
Practice Tips
As a pedagogue (studying the science behind singing) I enjoy basing my exercises around health for the voice. A sure relaxer of the vocal cords is the snarl technique, which is when you exhale in a snore type of fashion, opening your soft palate and creating room for the voice to soar freely without restraint. Try it, and see the newfound resonance and freeness your voice will have!
