Jacob’s Instructional Approach

My main mission as a music teacher is to inspire my students with a lifelong passion for music. A deep love for music is the foundation upon which good practicing habits and technical proficiency are built. One of the most important things to me is that my students are playing music they truly enjoy! In addition to this, technical exercises, ear training, and an understanding of music theory all play a part in helping students play the music to its fullest potential. Whether I’m working with experienced musicians or complete beginners, my lessons help guide students toward their full potential.

Practice Tips

Practicing is essential for any beginner musician, though it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. I always try to remember that actively listening to the music you want to learn can be an effective form of practicing. Another strategy I find helpful is to practice skills like scales, arpeggios, and other technical exercises while watching TV or listening to an audiobook. This keeps my mind engaged with something else, allowing me to focus on developing my technical skills and muscle memory without losing interest or getting distracted.
