About Kyle

Ever since Kyle was a little kid he has always loved music. His fondest memories are from elementary school and his graduate studies which have involved music and the people he has made music with.

Kyle grew up in Shakopee Minnesota, a city on the outskirts of the greater Minneapolis and St. Paul. This provided Kyle with opportunities to be exposed to and learn from skilled gigging musicians in the Twin Cities area. When he was around 15 to 16 years old, he decided to devote himself to the art of music.

Kyle has his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music. He enjoys sharing the knowledge he has gained throughout the years with everyone. Apart from his education, he has also found a love and joy for performance. Kyle has played at weddings, corporate and school events, farmers markets, and the occasional jazz club.

Outside of music, Kyle enjoys spending his free time with friends, whether that involves staying in and watching a movie or TV show, or going out and exploring the beautiful nature or activities that Colorado offers. Kyle always enjoys the company of the people closest to him!

Kyle’s Instructional Approach

My instructional approach is one of warmth and understanding. One of the greatest lessons I took away from my own experience as a student is that fear and anxiety are the enemies of progress. The best teachers I ever had were the ones who made me feel seen as a person and understood that there was a lot more than just music going on in my everyday life. I strive to be like those teachers and provide good instruction through personal connection and understanding, as I feel that is the best way for students to learn and grow, not only as musicians but as people too.

Practice Tips

  • Start with something fun and end with something fun, but always challenge yourself in between.
  • Never be afraid to slow something down, the best way to play something faster is to play it slower first.
  • Break things down into digestible chunks, a lion doesn’t eat an elephant in one bite!
  • Don’t fear mistakes and don’t fear failure, they are our greatest opportunities to learn.
  • When in doubt try singing or verbalizing what you’re trying to play, if you know what you’re trying to play without the instrument it makes it all the easier to do it with the instrument.
