I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal and General Music Education with a minor in Spanish at Ball State University in Indiana. I graduated magna cum laude and was honored to be the 2016 recipient of the Rebecca Reichert Scholarship for Music Education. While attending Ball State, I performed a classical senior voice recital and sang in the Chamber Chorus, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorus, and University Choral Union as well as the Ball State Opera production of La bohème. During those four years, I had a great deal of field experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school music. For my student teaching, I co-taught five high school choirs and AP music theory and assisted in vocal directing the winter musical. Post-grad, I taught middle school choir and general music, which included taking students to state solo contests and directing a musical. I had several gigs in Indiana, primarily performing jazz, classical, and pop. Since moving to Colorado in 2019, I have been performing with the Colorado Symphony Chorus and participating in local jazz jams.
My approach focuses heavily on teaching my students how to sing using vocal health techniques. We will work on techniques that will help you build the correct muscle memory in your vocal mechanism - in other words, make singing easier in a healthy way! My teaching focuses on building true musicianship in a way that is tailored to each student’s individuality. We are going to work hard on developing musical skills that will set you up for success in the future as well as have fun delving into the music you enjoy.
One of the techniques I find the most effective to improve my singing is to watch or listen to a recording of myself. Since we are our own worst critics, many people struggle with
listening to themselves perform (I was one of them!), but this practice technique allows you to be able to pick out areas for improvement that you might not have noticed in real time. Trust me – over time, you will grow to love it and become a much more efficient musician!

Pop – Sara Bareilles, Lady Gaga, Jacob Collier (the future of pop!)
Folk/Indie – Ingrid Michaelson, Brandi Carlile
Jazz – Ella Fitzgerald, Snarky Puppy, Norah Jones, Nat King Cole
Classical – Debussy, Beethoven (the name of my dog, too!)
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all.” – Meg Cabot
One of the first things to really spark my interest in music was when I joined band in fifth grade as a snare drummer. By seventh grade, I was practicing hours at a time teaching myself to play piano and sing. I joined a local summer youth choir, where I received a little bit more voice coaching, and had my first opportunities to sing solo in public. I participated in choir, marching band, music theory, and musicals throughout high school, but I didn’t actually take private piano or voice lessons until college. I learned so much about myself and music from my experiences, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything!
